Water Project
We had some interaction with the people of Nyawa Village and they shared their appreciations after the completion of the water bore.
The borehole in Nyawa village supplies water to 5-6 surrounding villages, serving thousands of people. Instead of walking 3-4 hours to find dirty water, villagers now walk only 600 meters to access clean water. This improved accessibility has transformed the lives of those in Nyawa, leading to increased school attendance, better hygiene, improved health, and more!
The village of Nyawa, located in the southern part of Zambia, is home to approximately 200,000 people. Finding water is a big challenge for the community. In early 2024, women from the village went to fetch water from a distant, shallow well shared with animals. Pigs were known to wallow in the mud and contaminate the water, causing people to get sick or even die after drinking the water.
Dalitso Skills Centre, a registered Community Based Organization in Zambia since February 2022, is dedicated to providing support to the marginalized populations, specifically the women and youth in Nyawa village.
